Upgrading to Canvastic Version 3

Canvastic Version 3 is a free upgrade for all registered users. Click here to download the latest posted version.

There are many new features and new inclusions in the Clip Art, Backgrounds, Preferences, Preference Library, and Templates folders. Click here for a comprehensive list.

Before You Upgrade

Make copies of anything you may have placed or saved into your Canvastic version 1 folder. You may have added clip art. You may have created custom preference sets. You may have saved documents there. Copy all these items to a folder on your Desktop so you know they are safe.

Find your registration materials. You will need the registration name and code that was sent to you. Note: Version 3 will require a new registration code. Your version 2 code will not work. A Version 3 code will still work with Version 3.5. Contact Canvastic support if you have lost this information and it will be sent to you. Include your name, school, and how many licenses you own in your communication.

Delete the old Canvastic folder. You will not need it again. To uninstall, simply locate the Canvastic folder and drag it to the Trash (Macintosh) or Recycle Bin (Windows).

Delete any shortcuts or aliases to the old Canvastic application.

Upgrade to Version 3.5

  1. Locate your new downloaded file from canvastic.com.
  2. Double click the file to decompress it.
  3. Drag the resulting folder to the desired location on your hard drive. Do not move any of the enclosed folders or files to other locations.
  4. You may wish to add the Canvastic application icon to the Dock (Macintosh OS X) or create a shortcut (Windows) to it on your desktop to make it easy to find. See your computer's help system for specific directions.
  5. You may wish to make an archival copy of the Canvastic folder on another disk before you begin using it.
  6. Canvastic will function in Demo Mode (no saving or printing) until registered. To register, go to the Help menu and choose Register. Enter your registration name and code EXACTLY as given. Note that registration codes are platform specific. If you are installing Canvastic on Macintosh and Windows computers please request a "mixed" code.
  7. Copy any custom preference sets from version 1 to the new Preferences folder. Open them one at a time to update for new tools, palettes, and features. Note: You must register and make preference changes when logged into the computer as an administrator. Limited users will not be able to make these changes.
  8. Open any documents that you were using as templates and re-save them with the Save As Template... command under the File menu.

The only files installed by Canvastic are the ones in the Canvastic folder. Do not move any of the files within the Canvastic folder unless directed by this documentation. . Do not rename any of the files with the exception of the preference sets, which are in the Preferences folder or the Preferences Library folder. They can be named anything that is appropriate. 1st_Grade, 2nd_Grade etc. and K preference sets are just examples. It is expected that teachers will change these sets to meet the needs of their students (see the Preference Sets section). Be sure to keep the .cpf at the end of those file names if you change them.

Note: Students may benefit from the Student Introduction to Publishing with Canvastic Lesson before using the program.

Note: If your school purchased a multiple seat license, you should have received directions that will aid in installing Canvastic on multiple computers. You can request those directions here.
