Open...

Displays the Open File dialog box so you can open previously saved Canvastic documents.

Open Template...

Open Folder...V3

Displays the Open File dialog box and allows you to select a folder of documents or images rather than an individual document. This is very helpful when working on a multi-page project and a preferred choice for preparing for a presentation.

Insert...

Displays the Open File dialog box so you can choose graphics or audio files V3.5 to insert into your canvas. Canvastic can insert many standard graphic files, including jpeg, gif, and png. Audio files supported are mp3, mp4, and wav. Windows users will need to pick the correct file format from the “Files of type:” control or they won't find any files to insert.

Note: Images are scaled automatically if they are too large for the canvas. V3

Close

Closes the front most window, but leaves the Canvastic application open. Under Windows, Canvastic will Quit.

Save As...

Save As Template...

Saves a copy of the document displayed in the front most window in a special way. Use this menu item to save an existing document as a special template file. It will have the extension .cdt

Template files open as new untitled documents but with all the content saved in the template. See the Templates folder included within the Canvastic folder for many examples of template files.

Note: You can change any Canvastic document into a Canvastic template by changing the extension to .cdt

Export

Saves a copy of the document displayed in the front most window in a common graphics format like JPEG, BMP, and PNG. Those exported files can be easily inserted into other applications. Choose JPEG, BMP, or PNG from the sub-menu.

Slide Show...

Displays the Slide Show window in which you can build a slide show of Canvastic documents and other graphics files as a full-screen presentation.

  • Open the Canvastic documents that you would like to use in your presentation if you wish.
  • Use the Add (+) and Delete (-) buttons in the bottom left of the window to add or delete documents that have been saved to the show. You may add Canvastic documents, JPEG, TIFF, PNG, BMP, and PICT files.
  • Use the button to automatically:
    • add all your open documents.
    • add all the documents from a chosen folder.
    • remove all slides and start over.
  • You can change the order of the slides by clicking and dragging them to a different position in the list.
  • Choose Manual Slide Change or Timed Slide Change. Manual slide shows are controlled with the arrow keys on your keyboard. Press the right arrow key to move forward through the slides. Press the left arrow key to move back. The up arrow key displays the first slide. The down arrow key displays the last slide. The Esc key stops the slide show.
  • If you are using the Timed Slide Change option, adjust the number of display seconds per slide by clicking the up or down arrows. Fractional seconds are supported so that creating animations are possible with the slide show functions.
  • Select a background color for the show by clicking the Background color box.
  • Use the Music drop down menu to select an audio file for your presentation. Audio files must be in mp3 format and saved into the Music folder within the Canvastic folder. Some default choices are included; Rock, Jazz, Country, and Pastoral.
  • Audio clips that have been inserted into the individual pages using the Audio tool will play during the slideshow. If there are multiple sounds the last one inserted will play first, then the next to last one inserted and so on. Music backgrounds (if chosen) will fade in volume until the slide's sounds are finished playing.
  • You can click the Fit button to automatically time the slides to “fit” the music selection.
  • Select a transition from the Transition popup menu.
  • Use the (Play) button to display a full screen live presentation. Note: If you are using the Timed Slide Change option you can over ride the timings with the arrow keys.
  • Use the Esc key or the Q key to stop the presentation and return to the Slide Show window.
  • The presentation will continue playing in a loop until the ESC key is pressed.
  • Note: The presentation cannot be saved. See the Movie... export section for saving options.
  • Note: If you are creating an animation you should open your slides first from Canvastic’s File menu rather than just loading them in the Slide Show interface. They will display faster and smoother.
